You can imagine my utter delight when I spotted orange flowers, pretty much the same colour as the orange coloured Boxers we were on an adventure with. ♥ Boo-Boo is the loving older sister of Ginger (the pup in my last post). As Boo gobbled up the treats coming their way her tongue lashed out wildly! It’s so humbling to be able to say this image won 2nd place for the Kennel Club’s prestigious @dogphotographeroftheyear competition in the Oldies category. ♥ This grey-faced gal had absolutely no concept of her ripening age. Right to the very end of her photo session at Beacon Fell, Bailee leapt and scrambled over logs smiling down at me hopefully for a snack! Although she had slowed down a little more with each grey hair appearing on her soft face, Bailee was as raring for adventure as she had ever been. ♥⠀⠀ I created this portrait in a bright wide angle format to accentuate the pup-like spirit that shone from her. I bet you can’t guess what breed Dexter is… (leave your answer in the comments before scrolling for the answer!) . . . . . . . . Got it? He’s an Entlebutcher Mountain Dog. I had honestly never heard of the breed until I met Dexter. He had a Beagle-like photogenicity. One dog that really stood out to me last year was Miss Darcy. You’ve seen her face here before right? Not only was her adventure with us was an unforgettable escapade at the Liverpool Royal Albert Dock (which we had all to our selves thanks to the World Cup being on) but also because of her super unique markings. I am a huge fan of Dalmatians, they are right up there as one of my favourite breeds, but Darcy had one over on a normal Dally. She is part patterdale, thus shrinking her a little and decreasing the health risks that come with being a Dalmatian. As much as we can admire the beauty of any dog it is so so important to consider their health first and what effects breeding for certain traits might have on the quality of the life that results. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This photo comes with a warning! 😮 ♥ We were walking through St Anne’s after a morning session when I stopped dead in my tracks. The most unusual dog I had ever seen was crossing the road right ahead of us. After a brief glance at each other Michael and I dashed straight over to find out more. ♥ Casper is a five month old Daschund with a coat known as a dapple that rarely occurs in his kind. Although strikingly beautiful Casper’s markings are often coupled with terrible health defects. It is incredibly dangerous to breed specifically for dapple traits, but luckily for Casper he has a clean bill of health. He was an unexpected accident from a Black and tan Mum and a Cream dapple Dad. So while we can admire his coat all day it’s super important to remember to avoid trying to engineer such traits. ♥ For a young pup Casper was incredibly confident and curious about the world around him. He was visiting from Scotland on holiday and we just managed to squeeze a photo session in for him before he returned up north. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As the sun set behind the clouds gathering above the Galloway Forrest, I laid down in the damp Scottish earth and patiently watched as Dali’s Mum sat him down in front of me. Aside from his giant form, Dali is no ordinary Dalmatian. Unlike any dally I have met before, this chap can masterfully hold a stay with very little coaxing needed. ♥ Anyone who has lived with or spent a lot of time with a Dalmatian will know they are extremely head strong breeds and usually mad as a box of frogs! Dalis willingness to please is a huge credit to his Mum, who has several things in common with me. Cat (there’s the first one!) is a fellow dog photographer sharing my passion for spotty dogs and whacky coloured hair! I can only dream that one day I will join her in being a Dalmatian Mama too. I genuinely considered having a Dalmatian at one point, but thought better of it after a bit more research into their exuberant temperament. ♥ By the time we had finished shooting the sun was long gone, so along side Poppy, Dali and our adventure thirsty friends @catlostyphotography & @aliceloderphotography, Mike and I scrambled down the mysterious Scottish hills back to our home for the week. The little cottage we were staying at together was only a short drive from the Galloway Forrest, tucked away in a remote part of the Scottish lowlands. I can’t wait to return to Scotland in the summer - this time to the highlands. It’s a place I spent much of my childhood and holds so many memories of adventures up mountains and playing in rock pools.
